Baltic Sampler

A workshop and reading session for choral music professionals and singers, with an afternoon showcase of some Baltic compositions to showcase the rich choral tradition of the region.

Join the Mägi Ensemble along with guest performers as we highlight compositions by Baltic composers that have been integral in the Song Festival traditions and the development of the strong choral traditions of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

SCHEDULE

8:30am: Set-up and registration, UW School of Music

9:00-10:30am: Overview of session and the use of music as non-violent resistance in the
Singing Revolution, Sight-reading of 6 scores (2 from each country) with demonstrations
from Mägi Ensemble about performance practice and vocal techniques for Baltic folk style.

10:30-10:40am: Break

10:40am-12noon: Continuing of sight-reading and working through an additional 9 scores with
guidance for language pronunciation for Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian

12:00-1:20pm: Lunch (off campus)

1:30-2:30pm: Mägi Ensemble demonstration concert of additional Baltic repertoire

2:30-3:30pm: Question and Answer session

A maximum of FIVE O.S.P.I. approved clock hours, dependent upon personal attendance, will be offered by the Washington Music Educators Association. Clock hours are free to current WMEA/NAfME members. Nonmembers may claim hours at the rate of $2 per hour claimed. Clock hour registration materials and instructions will be available onsite.
